Eureka, CA (October 13, 2018) – Schmidbauer Lumber presented the 2018 conclusion of the Humboldt Outlaw Karts this past Saturday. All six divisions were in action with a spectacular combined purse of over $1,700 on the line thanks to Ward Concrete & Equipment and Fredy Champagne. The action on the track proved to be some of the best in all of 2018.

Jack Myer has been dominant all year long in the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stocks and he continued that with a victory in the heat race. Danica Kinsey led the feature event for the majority of its duration. An early spin by Corbin Green took him out of contention. Myer made his move to the front in the closing stages as he was able to get to the lead. Myer was able to hold on and take the victory. Aaliyah Uselton got by Kinsey to take second while Green was credited with fourth.

The Williamson Financial Group box stocks had a nice turnout with the division having two heat races. Heat one was won by Derrek Kessler, Jr. while Dylan Combest took heat race two. The main event started off with an incident between Colton Kinsey and Janice Walters who got hooked together on the first lap in the second turn. Brady Osborne took the lead on the restart but Grant Williamson was able to get by for the spot. Williamson led for several laps before spinning and bringing out the caution giving the lead to Austin Bartholomew. The restart saw Bartholomew jump to a huge lead until the yellow flew again when Kinsey lost power on the back stretch. The next restart proved to be the last as Bartholomew was able to pull away to take the victory. Combest took second over Walters, Lily Williamson and Grant Williamson.

Daniel Combest took the win in the Fortuna Wheel & Brake old fart kart heat. Amanda Harp led the first two circuits of the feature before Nick Ford took over the top spot. The main was slowed only once when Combest spun in the fourth turn. Ford pulled away on the restart and was able to cruise the rest of the way. At the finish it was Ford winning over Harp, Combest and Eddy Robinson.

The Wes Green Landscaping 125/250cc kart heat was taken by Landen Green. The main event started off with a multi-kart incident in turns one and two involving MKinzy Uselton, Sonya Osborne and Malessa Miles. Uselton suffered a minor injury that prevented her from completing the race. Green moved to the lead until a spin by Nick Ford brought out the caution. Miles got the jump on Green on the restart but the two got together bringing out another yellow. Green jumped back into the lead on the restart and led all the way to the finish. He was followed by Osborne, Miles and Uselton.

The heat race for the Miclette Family Racing pure stocks was won by Chris Lawrence. Pete Miclette held the lead on lap one of the main but Leonard Ward took over on lap two. Ward’s time at the front also lasted a single lap as Lawrence moved to the lead. Lawrence was able to go the rest of the way without challenge, crossing the line first. Miclette placed second with Ward taking third.

The NorCal Automotive 500cc/open karts had a fantastic turnout with Anissa Curtice and Darin Spencer taking the two heat race wins. The main event proved to be one of the best races of the season but started off with an incident involving Jordan Miclette and Cliff Myer. Dax Williamson inherited the lead on the restart but Curtice was able to quickly take over. After another yellow, the race got heated up front as Curtice led over Spencer and Brandon Lachance. Spencer got high off turn two allowing Lachance to take second. The race progressed with Lachance slowly catching Curtice as the two maneuvered through traffic. On the white flag lap, Lachance made a move inside Curtice going into turn one. The two came into contact but both drivers held on. Curtice was able to regain the lead and fend off Lachance to take the thrilling victory. Spencer took third with Angela Rohlfs placing fourth and Williamson fifth.

One Race Left In 2018 Humboldt Outlaw Kart Season

By Matthew James Sullivan

Eureka, CA (September 18, 2018) – Spectacular weather graced the Humboldt Outlaw Karts this past Saturday at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds.

The late-summer sun made for slick track conditions on the 1/8-dirt oval with drivers having to be especially on their game with dust levels being higher than usual. The afternoon’s events were presented by John Fullerton for Eureka City Council and the day was concluded with a barbecue.

The big winners on the afternoon were Corbin Green in the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stocks, Austin Bartholomew in the Williamson Financial box stocks, Landen Green in the Wes Green Landscaping 125cc/250cc division, Jordan Miclette in the NorCal Automotive 500cc/open karts, Amanda Harp in the Fortuna Wheel & Brake old fart karts and Pete Miclette in the Miclette Family Racing pure stocks. The post-race barbecue featured an awards ceremony celebrating not only the day’s winners but all of the drivers and teams who’ve participated throughout 2018 as well as all of the Humboldt Outlaw Kart officials.

This past weekend’s race was originally scheduled to be the season finale for the 2018 Humboldt Outlaw Karts but an additional race has been added to the schedule. Saturday October 13 will be the last event of the year and will be presented by Schmidbauer Lumber, Incorporated. More information on the race will be posted in the near future. New Bullring Track Proves To Be A Big Hit For Humboldt Outlaw Kart Racers

Matthew James Sullivan

Eureka, CA (August 26, 2018) – The highly anticipated debut of the new 1/8-mile dirt venue took place this past Saturday at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds. It was an exciting afternoon for all involved as a ribbon cutting ceremony prior to the action on the track took place at the start/finish line. The new track’s location on the fairground’s property took the place of the previous rodeo arena giving Redwood Acres and outlaw kart racers their own permanent bullring track. The Mill Yard sponsored the racing action which not only celebrated a new beginning of racing in Northern California but also the hard work and dedication of many volunteers who helped made the track become a reality.

Chayce Smith took the victory in the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stock division. The feature event got off to a slow start with two multiple-kart incidents on the initial two restarts. The third restart saw Smith jump to the race lead and he never looked back. At the finish it was Smith taking the win over Jack Myer, Danica Kinsey and Aaliyah Mitchell.

The Williamson Financial Group box stocks had a nice turnout of karts which necessitated two heat races. Grant Williamson won the first heat while Timmy Walters took the second. Dylan Combest had issues in his heat which prevented him from finishing but that did nothing to slow him at the start of the main event as he led early over Brady Osborne. Derrick Kessler, Jr. was able to maneuver to the lead just as a spin by Sonya Osborne slowed the field. Combest got a great restart and took the lead back from Kessler, Jr.  Austin Bartholomew was beginning to make his way to the front as he entered third place in the middle stages of the race but a spin off turn two ended his chance at victory. Combest led the restart and was able to pull away from the pack while second on the back shuffled from lap to lap. At the finish it was Combest winning over Janice Walters. Brady Osborne was third with Mitchell Matteoli fourth and Willi

The new raceway looked to be a better fit for the faster Wes Green Landscaping 125/250cc karts. Landen Green has been the dominant driver in the division and he was able to easily transition from the 1/8-track the karts previous raced on to the new track with a win in the heat race. Wyatt Burns briefly led the main event but a spin off turn two gave Green the lead. Nobody had anything for Green who was able to pull away from the pack of Maleesa Miles, MKinzy Uselton and Burns who traded second position several times. Green was able to bring it home first at the finish over Burns and Uselton while Miles was fourth but unable to finish the race due to mechanical issues.

Like the 125/250cc karts, the NorCal Automotive 500cc/open karts seemed to take to the new track very well. Tony Miles held on to take the heat race victory. The feature proved to be a battle of survival as every driver in the event seemed to have one mechanical issue or another. Miles looked to have the victory sewn up in the late stages when Dax Williamson was forced into the pits. Williamson was able to return and took the lead when Miles had issues with his kart. Miles returned and the two settled the race for the victory on the track. Miles jumped into the lead on the final restart and was able to beat Williamson to the finish. Gary Foster was third with Jordan Miclette fourth.

Nick Ford took the heat race victory in the Fortuna Wheel& Brake old fart karts. Chelsea Champagne jumped to the lead in the feature and was able to pull out to a substantial lead. Ford was likely her primary competition but he got hooked up with the hay bales off turn two which cost him almost a full lap to the leader Champagne. Ford ran as hard as he could as he was able to get by Sabrina Kinsey and Amanda Harp but without the aid of a caution he was unable to make up ground on the leader. Champagne cruised to the win over Ford, Harp and Kinsey.

Two competitors from Redwood Acres Raceway’s Legends division raced in the Miclette Family Racing pure stocks with point leader Chris Lawrence and Leonard Ward racing for the afternoon.  Ward was able to take the heat race victory. Unfortunately, one of the competitors Ryan Ahrens had issues in the heat and was unable to start the feature race. Ward took the lead at the start of the main event and looked to have the race well in hand. A spin in turn four took Ward out of the lead and putting Lawrence up front. That was all Lawrence needed as he was able to lead from the restart to the checkered flag for the victory. Pete Miclette took second with Ward placing third.

Another race is still on the schedule for the 2018 Humboldt Outlaw Karts season on Saturday September 15th. HOK officials are also hoping to add an addition event before the year is over. New Track Will Provide New Challenge For Outlaw Kart Drivers

The Mill Yard.jpg

Matthew James Sullivan

Eureka, CA (August 23, 2018) – It’s been a long two months for outlaw kart racers in the Humboldt County area. The most recent race occurred all the way back on June 21st during the Redwood Acres Fair. The delay between then and this Saturday was for good reason as this weekend’s Humboldt Outlaw Kart races will be the dawn of a new era for outlaw kart racing in the area.

A brand-new permanent 1/8-mile track has been built in place of the fairgrounds’ old rodeo arena which is in the southwest portion of Redwood Acres, adjacent to the BMX track. The previous 1/10-mile dirt circuit was located in the infield of the 3/8-mile paved Redwood Acres Raceway oval. However, other motorsport events necessitated the track having to be restored throughout the year. The new track will be to the benefit of racers and fans and the new, bigger track will provide a new challenge for the drivers. The Mill Yard will be presenting this Saturday’s races and all six divisions will be participating.

The beautiful new outlaw kart bullring would not have been possible without the hard work and support of numerous people. Thank you to Ryan Ahrens, Nick Green, John Jameson, Kevin Jameson, Jamie Jorgensen, Jordan Miclette, Casey Mitchell and Ryan Walters for their dedication to not only seeing the new track come to fruition but for going above and beyond in making it a place we can all be proud of. Humboldt Outlaw Karts would also like to thank our division sponsors Champagne Attorney Service for the beginner box stocks, Williamson Financial Group for the box stocks, Wes Green Landscaping for the 125/250cc karts, Fortuna Wheel & Brake for the old fart karts, Miclette Family Racing for the pure stocks and NorCal Automotive for the 500cc/open karts. Also a huge thank you to Wes Green Landscaping, Steve’s Septic Service, Eureka Payments, John’s Used Cars And Wreckers, Ultimate Yogurt, Automotive Workshop & Fabrication and The Mill Yard for sponsoring the Humboldt Outlaw Kart races.

Gates for this Saturday’s event open at 10:00 AM. Mud packing will take place at 2:30 PM with racing starting at 3:00 PM. For more information on this weekend’s exciting action, visit Humboldt Outlaw Karts’ website at www.HumboldtOutlawKarts.com or on Facebook www.facebook.com/HumboldtOutlawKarts/

Pure Stock Main Event Winner #59 Tim Crenshaw

By Matthew James Sullivan

Eureka, CA (June 27, 2018) – The Humboldt Outlaw Karts had its biggest race of the season with Automotive Workshop & Fabrication presenting the night’s action. The June 21st race was a Thursday night special on opening night of the annual Redwood Acres Fair. In addition, entry to the event was free for fans. Many in attendance were able to see outlaw kart racing at Redwood Acres for the first time, including numerous young fans.

There was additional incentive for drivers in all six divisions. The top four finishers in the main event would enter a six-lap Dash 4 Cash race with the winner receiving $100.

The heat race for the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stocks was won by Corbin Green. The main event went green with Chayce Smith moving to the lead. A spin by Danica Kinsey bunched the field. There were several other cautions in the race including a multi-kart accident in turn four. Even with the restarts, Smith was able to pull away from the pack each time. At the finish it was Smith winning followed by Green, Aaliyah Mitchell, Kinsey and Myer. The Dash 4 Cash race was caution-filled but the end result was similar to the main event. Smith took the $100 victory over Green, Mitchell and Kinsey.

The Williamson Financial Group box stocks had two heat races with Dylan Combest winning the first heat and Brady Osborn taking the second. Colton Kinsey led the opening stages. Derek Kessler spun in turns three and four to bring out a yellow which brought the field together. Combest used the restart to his advantage as he was able to take the lead. Spins by Bryce Johnson and Sonya Osborn slowed the race. Under caution, Kinsey had issues which forced him to retire from the race. The restart saw Combest leading followed by Connor Jones and Janice Walters. In the final handful of laps, Walters slipped off the track costing her several positions. Combest was able to hold off Jones for the win. Timmy Walters was third followed by Brady Osborn and Sonya Osborn.

The initial lead in the box stock Dash 4 Cash was held by Brady Osborn. Timmy Walters slid off track and Osborn did the same. Jones moved to the lead and was able to fend off Combest for the $100 victory.

The Wes Green Landscaping 125/200cc kart heat went to Braden Weiser. MKinzy Uselton jumped to the lead at the start of the feature but a spin by Braden Weiser forced a restart. Body Weiser took advantage to take the lead over Landen Green. The front two were close for a time but as the race wore on Body Weiser was able to pull away. Maleesa Miles’s spin closed the field while a spin by Uselton also necessitated a caution. They did not prevent Body Weiser as he was able to take the checkered flag over Braden Weiser, Landen Green and Uselton.

The Dash 4 Cash race as Uselton spun in turn three while Green and Body Weiser also spun off the second turn. Braden Weiser was able to avoid adversity to take the win followed by Body Weiser, Green and Uselton.

Nick Ford was the winner of the Fortuna Wheel & Brake old far karts. The main event was dominated by Ford. An early spin by Sara Cox slowed the field. The caution flew again when Amanda Harp turned around. Ford was able to lead wire-to-wire for the win. Harp, Cox and Foster rounded out the finishers. The start of the Dash 4 Cash saw Foster and Cox spin off the second turn. Foster led the restart with Ford closing quickly. Foster was able to fend off all challengers for the victory over Cox, Ford and Harp.

The NorCal Automotive 500cc/open karts had a nice turnout with Daniel Whitley winning the heat race. Wayne Fisher grabbed the lead at the start of the main. A spin by Tony Miles and Cliff Myer. Whitley took the lead on the restart and looked to be the driver to beat. The race was slowed by a Wayne Fisher spin. The biggest incident of the night came when Fisher spun off turn four. Miles also slid off track causing his car to roll over. Miles was able to drive his kart back to the pits but wasn’t able to return to the race. The rest of the race proved to be a formality for Whitley as he was able to cruise to the victory. Anissa Curtice and her father Brad Curtice had a race-long battle with Annissa taking the second-place finish. Fisher was fourth while Miles was credited with fifth.

It didn’t take long for Whitley to move to the lead in the Dash 4 Cash. By the end of lap one he was able to take the lead from Fisher. Anissa Curtice spun from the third position for a caution but it didn’t prevent Whitley from taking the win. Brad Curtice took second over Fisher and Anissa Curtice.

Pete Michlette was the winner in the Michlette Family Racing real stocks. The main event saw Jordan Michlette move to the lead over Tim Crenshaw. Several cautions slowed the race and allowed Tim Crenshaw to inherit the top position. Crenshaw never lost the lead even though Pete Michlette made a hard charge in the final few laps. At the checkered flag it was Crenshaw winning followed by Pete Michlette, Jordan Michlette and Alex Kinser. The Dash 4 Cash was a formality for Jordan Michlette as he led from start to finish beating out Pete Michlette, Crenshaw and Kinser.

It was a bittersweet ending at the conclusion of the races as it was the final event to be held on the 1/10th-mile dirt track inside the 3/8th-mile paved oval. Thankfully racing for the Humboldt Outlaw Karts will continue to be held at the fairgrounds. A new track inside the old rodeo arena will be the new home for the outlaw karts. Unfortunately, the next race which was scheduled for Saturday July 14th has been cancelled. Officials are working on rescheduling the event.

Humboldt Outlaw Karts return to Redwood Acres

Eureka, CA (May 20, 2018) – After a month’s break, outlaw kart racing returned to the Redwood Acres fairgrounds for the second event of the season. John’s Used Cars and Wreckers sponsored the event which proved to be a brisk and windy day at the 1/10-mile dirt oval but that didn’t prevent the racing on the track to be exciting.

Corbin Green took the heat race victory for the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stocks. Green shot out to the lead of the 20-lap main event. Jack Myer slipped into second past Danica Kinsey. Green pulled out to a several kart-length lead over Myer but as the race progressed, Myer began to slowly close in. Green spun handing the lead over to Myer and causing the race’s only caution flag. Myer led the restart but it didn’t take long for Green to move back to the lead as he moved under and past Myer for the lead in the closing stages. At the finish it was Green winning over Myer, Aaliyah Mitchell and Danica Kinsey.

The Williamson Financial box stock heat race was claimed by Derrick Kessler, Jr. The 20-lap main event was brought to the green flag by Brady Osborn and Sonya Osborn. Brady shot out to the early lead but the race was filled with caution flags. The most notable came when Janice Walters lost power down the back stretch. Brady Osbourn tried to avoid Walters while second place Kessler tried to do the same. Both karts collided bringing out a caution but both were able to continue. Sonya Osborn inherited the lead briefly but Grant Williamson was able to quickly take over. Williamson led for a while but Kessler was able to work his way back to the lead in the closing stages. The finish saw Kessler take the victory followed by Sonya Osborn, Walters, Brady Osborn and Williamson.

In the Wes Green Landscaping 125/550cc heat race, Chelsea Champagne was the victor. The main event was dominated flag-to-flag by Landen Green. His closest competitor was Champagne who tried everything she could to apply pressure Green to make a mistake. Unfortunately for her, that mistake never came. Green was able to take the win over Champagne, Wyatt Burns, Malessa Miles and MKinzy Uselton.

Michlette Family Racing stepped up to sponsor the pure stock division. Michael Lawrence was the winner of the heat race. The main event proved to be a playing ground for Jordan Michlette as he was able to take the lead after a caution slowed the field. A late caution bunched the field and allowed Lawrence to close in. However, Michlette was able to pull out to a sizable lead and the race win. Lawrence placed second while Curtis Lyon.

The NorCal Automotive 500cc/open karts were in action. It proved to be Tony Miles’ day as he was able to win the heat race and dominate the feature event. Dax Williamson placed second.

The next scheduled even for the Humboldt Outlaw Karts on Thursday June 21st. The event will be the biggest of the season for the karts with the race occurring on opening day of the Redwood Acres Fair. Automotive Workshop & Fabrication will be presenting the event. This weekend’s event is presented by John’s Used Cars And Wreckers and will be held on the 1/10-mile dirt oval inside the Redwood Acres Raceway paved 3/8-mile paved oval.

2018 Humboldt Outlaw Kart Season Begins

Photos by Mark Ahrens

Matthew James Sullivan

Eureka, CA (April 25, 2018) –

Outlaw kart racing returned to the Redwood Acres Fairground for the first time this past weekend, April 14th. It’s the third time that the outlaws have raced at the fairgrounds but the first under of the Humboldt Outlaw Kart banner. The same divisions that have been racing on the 1/10th-mile dirt oval returned; beginner box stocks, box stocks, old fart karts, 125/250cc and 500cc/open karts. The opening day’s races were presented by Eureka Payments.

The heat race in the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stocks was Jack Myers. Corbin Green jumped to the led on the restart before spinning and surrendering the lead to Chayce Smith. The restart saw Smith pull out to a substantial lead while Myers, Green and Aaliyah Hughs battled for the second position. There were two more yellows in the race which bunched the field. Each time, Smith was able to pull away from the field. At the finish it was Smith taking the victory.

The Williamson Financial box stock heat race was won by Derek Kessler. T.J. Sorrels took the lead at the start of the main event which saw several cautions. The first saw Janice Walters lose power on the front stretch. The second came when Madison Donovan slid off the track. The restart featured an exciting battle between Sorrels and Dryver Dothage. At one point, Dothage got too high in turn four and nearly slid off the track. The final handful of laps proved to be stirring.

While racing for the lead, Sorrels spun with Dothage going off the track to avoid. Keegan Bounds was now the leader but his kart had issues. Sorrels regained the lead. Dothage’s final attempt at the victory sadly came up short as he went off track. Sorrels was able to take the checkered flag.

Jordan Miclette in the Fortuna Wheel & Brake old fart kart heat race. The main event proved to be a different story as Nick Ford jumped into the lead at the start. Ford would lead wire-to-wire to claim the victory over Miclette.

The Wes Green Landscaping 125/250cc kart heat race winner proved to be Landen Green. The main event proved to be no different for Green. He was able to quickly take the lead at the green flag and even with problems with his kart, he was still able to maintain the lead. Behind him, MKinzy Uselton and Kloey Smith had a spirited battle for the second position. In the end, Smith was able to gain the upper hand for the second position. The finish saw Green win over Smith and Uselton.

Cliff Myer was victorious in the NorCal Automotive 500cc/open kart division. Myer led the open two laps of the main event before Chelsea Champagne moved to the lead. Champagne had the advantage all race long in spite of two caution flags due to spins by Myer. While taking the white flag on the last lap, Champagne’s kart lost power. At the same time, Myer spun for the third time in the race. Cliff Myer was declared the winner over Champagne.
